These southern oak logs were brought in here about 2 months ago, and right away I seal coated the ends,
I have a good supply of them waiting to be milled, which I should be into them next week if all goes well here,, been mill sweetgum, and should be done today.
Well I was just havin my early morn coffee and was walkin round admiring my collection of oak when I spotted this,,
Member now this oak log has been here bout 2 months and end coated,, and I spotted to oak sprigs coming out of it,, and there growing,, well my game plan is to carefully place the log on the mill, sprigs up, remove that slab, and maybe cut out a lil square round the sprig, and plant it, we'll see what happens,, But I would have never expected to see a sprout, coming out the log.

Several years ago I took a chainsaw and ringed two cherry trees and one sycamore. This was just as the leaves on the cherries were budding out. But I did the sycamore the prevoius fall. I intended to turn them into firewood sometime later. They all put on a full flush of leaves that Spring and grew the full season. The only thing that looked different about them compared to their neighbors was their leaves were a bit smaller. Come Fall, they turned and dropped their leaves early. I inspected the cuts and there were no flaws - deep enough and all the way around.

We milled some elm about two months ago that we had laying in the yard since Spring. It grew a few branches 2' long and had nice green leaves on it. Had the same thing happen with walnut. I blame it on Fort Knox. Did yours come from a nuclear facility?
