This is my eight year olds first real deer season. This was his second deer and my first. Its tough getting a shot when you have to go second all of the time. But Lord willing Ive got some more years in me and I can hunt alone again. Both deer he took this year were does, and both were one shot kills. He shoots a marlin guide model 45/70 government lever action. Very large gun but its ported so it doesnt kick so bad. He always says that we are going to wait on a buck but he always changes his mind when he sees a doe. We call it buck achers or buck fever. He was very proud of this one it was his first full sized doe. Mine you could pick up with one hand.

Its good to see folks taking the young-uns hunting. I just took my four year old girl on her first ever hunt yesterday.

I'm not ready to get her up in a tree stand just yet, so I made a special ground blind for her to hunt with me from. (well, it's really more like a crew served weapons fighting position complete with overhead cover and grenade sumps) She was able to sit still for about three hours, long enough for us to see two different bucks, unfortunately, daddy has already filled his buck tags. Thats what you get, of course, when you are looking for does. But we had a great time and she was thrilled to spot the deer. It will be a few years before she does any shooting like your boy. Congrats to yall!

I had my 5 year old on the hunt with us also. We were in the tree for 3 hours and he slept on my lap for half of it. We have the buddy stand from walmart. We love it, its easy to get into and its big enough for 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 kids. very safe.
