Hey guy's! I have been thinking of building a single tooth manual setter. I have a few ideas, but was wondering if anyone else has built one (or tried to) and would like to share any ideas? Speed is not as important to me as is accuracy. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sure ya could build your own setter,, but I'm not sure if its worth reinventin the wheel,, the guy that bought my 1st mill bought his setter from someone on e-bay, I think maybe it was round 100 bucks,,
I belive on most setters,, Well I have a Cooks Dual tooth setter, but I think the important thing is to be able to securely clamp the blade just before the tooth bending process,,so you can get an accurate dial indicator reading, either before or after,, on my machine it measures the set of both teeth at the same time I'm setting the teeth to follow.
Now I'm not sure but i belive when using a single tooth setter, your instructed to invert the band for the setting process of the other tooth,, but I dont think you have to do that,, if you can set up, and set your self inside the loop of the band I think you can just go the other way, w/o inverting

Hey Robert, Yeh, I was gonna build one kind of like the $100 Ebay ones, except a little more precision. I really haven't gotten to work on this plan yet. I just have too many other things going on, but I do need to get something set up to set bands. It will just be an inline clamp with a couple coil springs on a "sliding shoe" to clamp the blade just before the set, and a dial indicator.... you know what I mean. I may just end up buying one for lack of time to build.

newhuber, I would like to see your drawings, if you're willing to share them on here. I'm a little leery to ask for someone's ideas or plans, because I once got accused of everything this side of a being a thief on another saw mill forum for asking. I'm better at R&D, than I am at the initial design. My final product would most likely not be real close to the original design
