WB,
Thanks for getting things restarted! I had joined a few years back, mostly lurking and sucking up all of the info that you guys are putting out. I enjoy woodworking as a hobby, trying to use urban lumber whenever possible. One of my sawyers works for a construction company and he saws softwoods for paneling, flooring, concrete forms and such. He saws and air dries the hardwoods for sale. He donates lots of hardwoods to local high schools that have woodshop classes.

I hope to own a mill, but don't see it in the near future. Maybe a LM2000 or other one man mill.

WB, What is the story about the mules? Handsome looking team.

All of you guys, thanks for sharing you knowledge, humor and errors. I haven't hit any nails or clamps yet, but I haven't cut any logs yet either. YET.
:D
Thanks, Theo

Hey Theo, good to see you back!! There really is no story about the mules. I just like the pic. When I was a kid we used mules just like them. However our mules weren't like them on Axemen. My Daddy would cure them of that hook and snatch deal real fast, he'd be standing in front of him with a 2x and when he took off before he was told he would wear some of that 2x. Our mules didn't do all that. You hooked them up to something and they didn't do anything untill you told them to. Them mules they use on Axemen are untrained mules and if thats not the case,.. they would soon find themselves with a bad case of lead poision.

WB,
Watching those mules on Dirty Jobs (I don't remember seeing mules on Axmen) did not even make for good television. Good television - now there's an oxymoron for ya. Mike Rowe does a heck of a lot of NASTY jobs. Logging with those untrained mules was plain stupid, IMHO. That was just blatantly dangerous. Now more 'informed' people will think that all logging with animals is like that. Oh well.

I am stuck inside the city limits. Looking for a couple of acres to put up a saw shed, have a whack of logs to cut and do man stuff like spittin' & kickin' dirt clods.
It'll come, someday.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll have to work on something to contribute to the group.

Theo

Welcome Theo

There are some great people on this forum who can teach you a lot, especially Randy. I never cease to be amazed at the neat contraptions he build to move and handle logs and he has done a lot to publicize this profession through his videos on youtube which are excellent, especially the one that traces his progress form when he just got the mill to where he is now. Quite an inspiration

You may want to check out the woodmizer LT-10. With the sale they have going on, it is quite a good buy at $2995, and they offer financing if you need it. Just ordered one with the 10hp upgrade and go to pick it up in March

Fred,

Yep, Randy is quite a guy. I have been watching his videos, forum and website for a few years. I am honored to know a man who turned his life around after putting it in the hands of the Lord. My hat is off to him. Glad to rub elbows with the rest of you guys too.

Theo

WB.
I have been making a concerted effort to read the backlog (l like a good pun) of posts on the forum. It is fun catching up on the projects, hidden metal and sawdust stories. I was beginning to think that I would have to put in a request in the prayer room for the strength to make it thru. I know, it's my fault for not getting back to the forum for 2 years. Thanks for the perseverance to keep this squared away and for sending a couple of emails to let us know you had it up & running.

Gotta run, more reading to do.

:D Thanks Theo, I lost the domain name about a year ago and had to wait to get in back. Lost alot of members as they didn't know the new address. Then once they (freeforums.org) saw I was not going to pay what they wanted to get my domain name back,.. they held it for a year, then they let it expire and I got it back for the regular price. They we're trying to sqeeze me for more money, I paid $15 bucks for the domain name to start with, then once the forums started building up , I fooled around and let the domain name expire and they wanted $1200 to sell it back to me. I told them to put it where the sun NEVER shines and waited them out. I am glad to be back up and hope we start getting alot more members. However I hope them to be quality members, not just a bunch of know it alls. I want these forums to be a friendly place, where we can all chat and learn from one another and have a good time in the comfort of our own homes. 8)

Randy is one of the big reasons I bought a sawmill. I tracked his progress on youtube and here on the forum and saw how he continued to build his business. I was truly inspired by his determination and inginuity and can not wait to see the next gadget his comes up with. His new log arch is the cats meow. Give him long enough and he will find a way to move the entire tree back to his mill in one piece and have the mill cut it automatically while he sips a nice cold ice tea. Being somewhat diasabled with only 30% use of my left arm, I learn a lot from him about how to move logs smartly without using a whole lot of physical strength.
