:D Hi all, here's what I've been working on. Should have done this when I started this gig. This log table is gonna be the deal. It doesn't look like it but I have them 3" higher than the mill. I'm fabbing some log stop/ramps as well. It's all 6" X 8" Oak. Looking foward to getting it loaded. 8)

Looks good WB. That's what I was going to do when I finish my shed but I was only going to use two beams wide enough for me to get my Bobcat threw. I've got two ramps that woodmizer uses to load logs with cant hooks that I'm going to be able to remove off the deck to the mill after loading each log on the mill. I'm planning on making the deck able to hold about 3 or 4 logs on it so I don't have to get on bobcat to load each log. I'm glad you are started so you can let me know the pros and cons of two or three beams and how high works best for you. I think the mills call it a dead deck. Since you don't have a live chain on the beams to bring the logs to the mill. I'm starting real slow on my shed just don't have much time I just squared it up and dug holes and filled them with concrete on the bottom yesterday.

:D Hello xlogger, I have the beams 6' 8" apart from one another, that gives me enough room to get my fork lift between them. The third beam is a must in my world, as I get alot of longer logs. I am making the first two beams with brackets to hold a 4th beam in between the 1st and 2nd beams for short logs. I hate short logs so when they bring logs short enough that I have to use that,... the price goes up a bit. My ramps are going to be made so that when not in use, they will be folded up and will keep the rest of the logs from rolling toward to the mill. Kind of a L shape, the next log in line will sit on the L part and the ramp will be upright and hold the rest of the logs back. I'll be posting pix as soon as I am done with that. BTW the beams are at a slight downward slope to make it EZ'r to roll logs onto the mill. 8)

Looks great WB!!!!!!! I did get my corner posts up and concreted in the ground today. My rear posts are going to be highest and they are about 13 feet off ground now if I don't add any more soil or probably screening from rock quarry. I'm not sure on how high I want the front, I'm thinking I might just go with a 2 foot drop and cut them 11 feet from the ground. The shed is going to be 24X12 wide. That way the bottom of my I beam will be a little more than 11 feet off ground. What you think WB, will that be high enough?

:D Hey xlogger, I think 11' is ok but it doesn't give much headroom when you need to hoist a log very high. That does happen from time to time. You want all the room possible between the hoist and the hook. Hope this helps. if you have any more questions just let'm rip.I always say,"if ya haven't got the time to do it right the first time,... what on earth makes you think you have time to do it again. Know what I mean. 8)

hey WB, what is the benefit of a log table. I just assumed that it was easier to load with the tractor then to manhandle from a table. I see the benefits of an automatic table that loads the mill for you. I just despise rolling large logs by myself.

:D Hi WVUFAN, the log table keeps me from having to use the forklift to load logs,... freeing it up for other use's. The table is slightly higher than the mill and at a slight slope, so I have to hold the logs back, more than rolling them foward with the kant hook. They almost load themselves. I can load 5 to 7 logs on the table depending on the size of the logs. This allows me to use the forklift to load slabs on to haul them away as well. I always thought it was EZ enough to kant hook the logs onto the mill,... untill I built these. It's soooo much of a time & back saver it's unreal. Not to mention not having to climb on and off the forklift after every log. I would advise anybody that has there mill setup stationary to build a set ASAP. One more thing, the logs are just about waist high and perfect to handle when you do have to help them load. It just makes it so much EZ'r. 8)

it makes sense to me. How about a video of it in action. Once you get the kinks worked out

Looks Great Randy,,
You will wonder why you did it so long with out the deck,, you will be able to rinse logs if needed,, or delimb easier,,, and one of the other expensive things that the log deck will save you money with,, is not having to start the forklift up every time you want a log,, member each and every time you start it, you chew up a lil bit of the starters life,, and when you cant start the forklift,, you aint cuttin, you aint stackin,, starter for your machine I bet is several hundred dallors,,,,

:D Thats right Robert. I just broke the alt. belt on the forklift, it is s serpentine belt and runs everything else, so I'm down untill I get that fixed. Who knows when I'll be able to find a new one? All I have is about a 10" piece of it left. It's a Massey Furguson 2500 forklift and thats all the info I have on the machine. Bad day in Black Rock.
