Spent all day milling, sawed from 8 in the morning till 7 in the evening. The only time I stopped was to drag some more logs to the mill. I ran out of logs at about 1 so I ran up to my neighbors to ask him if he cared if I pulled a tree off of his property. It was a red oak property line tree between us and it fell about 2 weeks ago onto his side. When I got his ok I cut it into 2 8' sections about 25" across and 2 7' sections in between forks. Any time I can get a clear 8' I saw it into lumber but if I can only get between 6' and 7' I saw them into 6/4 x 6/4 and sell them to local landscapers for planting trees. Some of you guys might want to look into it, talk to some local landscapers, I get 75 cents apiece unsharpened and 99 cents sharpened. Im going to talk to some nurseries also about tomato stakes also 3/4 x 3/4 and 6' long for around 25 cents. Its not real big money but if you get an order of 4-5 hundred and you have the logs you can make them in a big day. I then use the money to upgrade, buy blades or fuel for the tractors or mills. Best thing is you dont need great logs, just cut up the whole log and pull out the good ones. I put the whole days load in my poor ole truck. It was squatting hard but taking it like a trooper. I bought that truck 8 years ago for 1500 bucks and drive it every day. Everyone makes fun of me, but it seems to be a waste of money to buy something new when this one has never let me down. They dont make them like they used to. BTW did you notice the ratchet straps this time. Looks like I learned something.

:D    Yeah that reload deal will wean you of traveling with out tiedowns. I dumped a whole stack of steel roof decking, right in the middle of an intersection one time. I thought man, this stuff is heavy, there's no way it will come out as long as I take it EZ. WRONG,.... bed liners suck. 35 sheets of 3'x12' decking I had to re-load right there by myself  Not one soul offered to help. :x They just drove around me, some laughing and some cusing. That pretty much weaned me of ANY movement of an unsecured load. 8)

BTW Looks like a busy day for you yesterday my friend. IMHO, you are selling to cheap, your time and your spine is worth more. My moto is: "If you don't ever start it,... you haven't ever got to stop it". I would bring my prices up slowly untill I was about 1 or 2 bucks below the busiest lumber yards KD price in your area. $2.00 less for customers that are friendly and appreciative and $1.00 less for customers with attitude and lowballers. That might be a little judgemental, but I'm just trying to find a way to stop the lowballers and not give them anything they can say against me, as I'm still selling it cheaper,... just not as cheap as they could have gotten it without the attitude. There are some folks that think going to a small sawmill is like going to an auction that nobody showed up to. ( meaning they could name there price) and that might be,... at some mills, but not here. I can go broke on the couch and never break a sweat. 8) I say again, this is just my opinion. Others may vary. One more thing,... when they tell how cheap the last sawyer sawed it for them,... I am subject to tell them, OH,... there's no way I can compete with that, just go ahead and take it to him.

I'm not so stupid that I don't know there is a reason they are looking for another mill and price is not always that reason. I sell Good Quality Truely square Lumber here that you will not find at any other place except another sawmill that takes pride in there work and are not just slicing wood for a buck. I can saw alot more lumber in a day,.. but is it gonna be flat, square lumber? I don't think so. You can't rush quality. 8)

Hey WVU, Whats to laugh at??? The whole days load in a truck you bought 8 years ago for $1500 that you drive every day and has never let you down???
When you're on the way to the bank and pass the guys (that laugh at you) at the mail box sending their $700+ a month payment in (that they will be sending for the next 7 years), for their brand new 4X4 diesel pick up, that they wouldn't even think of putting a piece of wood in, cause it might just put a scratch in the bed, feel free to smile and tip your hat back at em!! :)

I love that truck. Its a half ton with a extra leaf under it. I call it a 5/8 ton. I take my son fishing at some strip mines in Ohio and the roads are very rough and muddy. My truck has never gotton stuck, knock on wood. Ive had to hit a few holes a couple of times but its always made it through. I even lost a u joint once as I was climbing out of a hole, the snap ring had fallen out. We just put it back together and put a ratchet strap around it and fished the rest of the day. My wife says I have to give it to my son when hes old enough to drive. That means I get to keep it for 7 more years.
